Giacomo Puccini's Turandot was the last opera of the famous composer. The libretto was written on the basis of the play of the same name by Carlo Gozzi from 1762. Only after Puccini's death were his sketches and notes completed in their entirety, and finally the premiere took place more than a year after his death, on 25 April 1926 in Milan's Scala.
Turandot is the fairytale story of a beautiful but cruel princess named Turandot, who always poses three riddles to men - whoever fails to solve them, must die. Many have already died, when one day the stranger Prince Calaf arrives and is the first to solve all the riddles. Puccini used seven original Chinese melodies, some of which appear as leitmotifs in the opera.
Enjoy the opera Turandot with its memorable, wonderful melodies by the Vienna Opera House Orchestra (Staatsopernorchester). The Orchestra consists of prestigious musicians and several members of the internationally renowned Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
