The composer of Guillaume Tell (German: Wilhelm Tell; Italian: Guglielmo Tell) is Gioachino Rossini, who created this opera in four acts and six pictures. It is his last opera and at the same time his only completely newly composed grand opéra. The text is based on the stage work of the same name by Friedrich Schiller. The premiere took place in Paris on August 3, 1829.
The opera deals with the Swiss liberation struggle under the legendary freedom fighter William Tell against the Habsburg rule at the beginning of the 14th century. You can enjoy Guillaume Tell at the Vienna State Opera with its strikingly beautiful melodies performed by the unique Vienna Opera House Orchestra (Staatsopernorchester). The Orchestra consists of prestigious musicians and several members of the internationally renowned Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Don't miss the opportunity to enjoy the magnificent voice of Juan Diego Flórez as Arnold in the opera Guillaume Tell.
